When it comes to my iPhone's home screen(s), I'm pretty minimal. I have a main front page with key apps and a snapshot of my calendar, and a second page with a snapshot of the weather, my ToDoist, and the total number of miles cycled this week via Strava. I also have a couple of folders with work apps and cycling apps.
But after being inspired by someone on YouTube talking about the YNAB widgets, I decided to make a whole separate screen dedicated to finance and budgeting, and it looks a little something like this...
- 'Popping to the shops' is my leftover grocery budget, for variable costs like grabbing milk, bread, or fresh fruit/veg.
- 'Oh shit' is my emergency/forgot to budget for category. I'm early in my journey so this is zero right now!
- 'Moving house' is my savings account. I include this to remind myself that I'm working towards a future dream.
Below the YNAB widget I have my various finance-related apps: banking, credit cards, support, shopping (store cards, cashback app), socials, and bills.
Below those I have a photo widget. I created a photos folder with pictures that I hope will inspire me to make good financial decisions by reminding me of my aspirations for the future. This includes some absurd pictures I had an AI image generator create for me: a magical dishwasher, a MacBook made of diamonds and rainbows, and an apartment balcony overflowing with plants. Also the dog! (Note that I don't agree with many of the ways AI image generators are used. I use them for silly private use, like this.)
I'm hoping that this home screen will be a daily reminder to be mindful with money and remember everything I'm working towards on this journey.
Are there any tools you use to help keep you on track from day to day?
